St. Louis County COVID-19 Update

Public Health Orders

As announced by County Executive Dr. Page this morning, COVID-19 cases have been surging in St. Louis County over the past couple of weeks, just as they have around the country. In response to the increase in community transmission and the strain on our healthcare system, new public health orders have been announced and will go into effect at on Tuesday, November 17th. Those orders are the following:

“Safer at Home”: This order means that you must stay at home unless it is necessary to leave for specific activities such as going to work or school, seeking medical care, or buying food or other daily necessities. Exceptions are made for going to church, for visiting family members, and for care for those who need assistance, including children.

The order prohibits any gathering of more than 10 people, which is down from the current limit of 50%. Restaurants cannot offer indoor dining. Outdoor dining, take-out, and delivery are allowed. Bars may only provide carryout and delivery. Businesses must reduce their capacity from 50% of the maximum allowed by the fire code to 25%. If you must meet outside of your household, please do so in organized support bubble of no more than 10 people total, including family members or friends. These groups must be established, and even when a group gathers, all participants should practice masking, social distancing and other steps to reduce the risk of transmission. And if any member of the group gets sick, that person must immediately notify the other members. Additional details and the order in full can be found online here.

Face masks: Face coverings must be worn by anyone over the age of 5, in any indoor setting outside of your home, including when at work, when frequenting businesses, or when gathering if you are with people who live outside of your household. Included in this order is everyone at a gym, including those who are working out, participants in organized sports, when not actively playing in a game and students in a school setting. Additional details and the full order can be found online here

Isolation and Quarantine changes: Due to the drastic increase in new cases, DPH is acknowledging that cases may not be contacted quickly enough. DPH Staff is reaching out to as many people as possible with a focus on those who are most likely to spread the virus to others, but will not get to everyone. Therefore, residents who test positive must immediately self-isolate and tell everyone that they were in close contact with to quarantine. Instructions for isolation and quarantine can be found online here

Pop-Up Flu Vaccines and COVID-19 Testing

In additional to the public health orders, testing and getting a flu shot is absolutely imperative for not only your health but the safety of your loved ones and the community. However, like COVID-19, the flu is a respiratory illness. It is possible to get flu and COVID-19 at the same time. That’s why it's important to take steps to prevent both diseases. Appointments are required for both COVID-19 testing and flu vaccines. Click here to make a reservation. Please note the latest pop-up testing locations:
