St. Louis County COVID-19 Update

County Law Enforcement to Participate in DEA Take Back Day

With opioid overdose deaths increasing during the pandemic, DPH and the Drug Enforcement Administration announce that our annual Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 24. Law enforcement agencies across St. Louis County are hosting sites where the public can safely dispose of unused, expired or unwanted medications.

Disposal of medication is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Accepted medications include tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps, and illegal drugs will not be accepted. Vaping devices and cartridges can be dropped off provided lithium batteries are removed.

“The opioid epidemic is greatly affecting our community, and safe medication disposal is one important initiative to help prevent misuse and overdose,” St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page said. “By taking unwanted or unused opioids out of homes, drug take back days lessen the chance of them going to unintended users, like children and the elderly.”

The St. Louis County Police Department is hosting 12 medication disposal sites on Saturday. A complete list of medication disposal sites can be found at: www.DEATakeBack.com.
