St. Louis County COVID-19 Update

Pfizer Vaccine Update

The St. Louis County Department of Public Health welcomes the FDA’s decision Monday to grant full approval to the Pfizer vaccine for individuals 16 and up.

The decision means that the vaccine has now gone through the FDA’s standard process for review of quality, safety and efficacy of medical products which reinforced medical experts’ conclusion that the vaccine is safe and highly effective at preventing serious illness or death due to COVID-19. More than 200 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered in the United States so far, authorities say, and reactions are typically mild and temporary for those who experience them.

The Pfizer vaccine, which will now be marketed under the brand name Comirnaty, currently is available for free at all three of DPH’s permanent clinics – John C. Murphy Health Center, North Central Health Center and the South County Health Center – as well as at most of its neighborhood clinics. The vaccine continues to be available under emergency use authorization for individuals 12 through 15 years of age.

To find a convenient vaccination opportunity, please visit  Both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are also available at many DPH locations.
