St. Louis County COVID-19 Update

Saint Louis County Barbershops and Salons Promote Vaccination

Saint Louis County is partnering with North County barbershops and beauty salons to deliver information about the COVID-19 vaccine, County Executive Dr. Sam Page announced Wednesday morning. As part of an initiative called #SleevesUpSTL, we are inviting more than 50 North County businesses to work with County health officials to ensure that their customers have an accurate understanding of the vaccine.

“We know that barber shops and beauty salons are trusted places in many communities – places where people not only take care of their hairstyles, but also discuss current events and issues,” Dr. Page said. “We believe that vaccinations ought to be part of those conversations.”

The County will provide posters, flyers, and other material that shop owners can use to talk to their clients about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. The Urban League is also taking part in the initiative by donating thousands of masks.

As another wave of COVID-19 infection spreads across Missouri, vaccination rates in a number of North County ZIP codes lag behind the regional average. Black residents in these communities are at disproportionate risk of illness. A full list of free vaccination opportunities is available at stlcorona.com/events.

Transportation Opportunity

DPH is excited to announce that patients needing transportation to and from their COVID-19 vaccinations with DPH are now able to secure a free ride from Via. This service is available across the County, and rides can be scheduled in advance over the phone. Additionally, Via is able to provide vehicles that meet different accessibility needs.

If you need a free ride, you can call DPH at 314-615-2660 for more information.
